Route of the Glass Coach
On Prinsjesdag, the third Tuesday in September, the King leaves Noordeinde Palace on the stroke of one o’clock to travel to the Binnenhof in the Glass Coach. He is accompanied by his wife Queen Máxima, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien, Officers of the Royal Household and a military escort of honour. A guard of honour and a military band are positioned at both the Palace and the Ridderzaal.
Firing of salutes
Every minute of the journey, a salute is fired from the Malieveld in The Hague, to inform the public that the head of state is en route to the joint session of the States General.
When the King arrives at the Binnenhof, a band by the steps of the Ridderzaal strikes up the Dutch national anthem, the Wilhelmus. The King and the other members of the Royal House salute the colours before ascending the steps.
