State visits to Italy and the Holy See (Vatican City)

At the invitation of President Sergio Mattarella, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima will pay a state visit to the Italian Republic this summer. Besides Rome, the royal couple intend to visit two other cities – Milan, in the north, and Palermo, in the south.

The King and Queen will also pay a state visit to the Holy See in Vatican City, where they will be received by Pope Francis.

The state visits will take place from 20 to 23 June 2017.

The King and Queen will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bert Koenders. A broad economic mission will take place parallel to the visit, led by the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Lilianne Ploumen.
