King and Queen to visit Mecklenburg-West Pomerania and Brandenburg

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima will pay a working visit to the German states of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania and Brandenburg from Monday 20 May to Wednesday 22 May 2019. They will be accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, and the Minister of Education, Culture and Science, Ingrid van Engelshoven. The former will head a trade mission focusing on the shipbuilding industry, the latter a trade mission geared to the creative industry.

The aim of the working visit is to further strengthen the wide-ranging ties between the Netherlands and the two German states. One of the main focuses of economic relations between the Netherlands and Mecklenburg-West Pomerania is the maritime sector and shipbuilding, an industry in which around 300 businesses are active in that state. There are also opportunities to work together in the field of coastal protection. Agriculture, tourism and culture are important economic sectors in both states, and play a valuable role in revitalising rural areas and ensuring their future. The film industry has a long history in Brandenburg. The creative industry seeks to invest in the future of this sector in the state through innovative technologies.
