Princess Margriet and sports minister Bruno Bruins to attend PyeongChang 2018 Winter Paralympics

Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands will attend the Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, from Friday 9 to Tuesday 13 March 2018 in her capacity as member of the Honorary Board of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Bruno Bruins, Minister for Sport, will attend the Games from Wednesday 14 to Saturday 17 March.

Princess Margriet will be present at the opening ceremony on Friday 9 March, and will watch competitive events in para skiing, para snowboarding, and para ice hockey on subsequent days. Besides presenting a number of medals, both Princess Margriet and Mr Bruins will visit the Paralympic Village, where they will meet athletes, coaches and trainers of the Dutch team. Mr Bruins will also watch the para skiers and para snowboarders compete.

The IPC has been coordinating and facilitating the Paralympic Summer and Winter Games since 1989, along with other international competitions for para athletes. The Committee’s mission is to show that anyone can achieve sporting excellence and inspire others. The Dutch Paralympic Team is made up of nine athletes, who are competing in para skiing and para snowboarding. Esther Vergeer is the team’s Chef de Mission.
