State visit to Greece

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima will pay a state visit to Greece at the invitation of President Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The visit will take place from Monday 31 October to Wednesday 2 November in Athens and Thessaloniki.

The state visit reaffirms the good bilateral relations between the Netherlands and Greece. The two countries have been closely connected for over 40 years within the EU, and for 70 years within NATO. The state visit will focus on issues including cooperation on innovation, sustainability, migration and human rights, and the countries’ partnership within the EU.

The visit, which was originally set to take place in late 2021 and then in March of this year, was delayed first because of the COVID-19 pandemic and later because of the outbreak of war in Ukraine. It was postponed on both occasions after close consultation between King Willem-Alexander and President Sakellaropoulou.
