His Majesty King Willem-Alexander will pay a one-day working visit to Liverpool in the United Kingdom during the first week of November. The main focus of the visit will be Dutch-British cooperation on the use of innovative technologies in the maritime manufacturing industry and the aerospace sector. Attention will also be paid to strengthening defence and security cooperation. An economic mission will take place in parallel with the working visit.
The Netherlands and the United Kingdom are North Sea neighbours and allies with deeply rooted ties. Both countries are maritime trading nations with open, export-oriented economies and are committed to multilateral security cooperation. They also share similar strategies in the fields of innovation, defence and industry.
Due to the presence of high-tech manufacturing companies, research facilities and science parks, the North West of the United Kingdom is a major hub for the development and application of innovative technologies. Several aerospace companies are located around Liverpool, and the region also hosts large-scale maritime projects.
The working visit to Liverpool will build on previous trips in recent years, such as the state visit to the United Kingdom in October 2018 and the working visit by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima to the Occitania region of France (in Dutch) in 2025, which focused in part on the aerospace sector.
