The royal standard is the King’s flag. The royal standard is flown from Noordeinde Palace and Huis ten Bosch Palace whenever the King is in the Netherlands.
In the centre of the royal flag is the coat of arms of the Kingdom surmounted by the royal crown. Surrounding the arms are the insignia of the Grand Cross of the Military Order of William. The flag is divided into four quarters by a cross of Nassau blue. Each quarter contains a blue bugle horn from the arms of the principality of Orange.
The royal standard was adopted in 1908 by Queen Wilhelmina and was subsequently used by Queen Juliana and Queen Beatrix. King Willem-Alexander uses a slightly modified standard: the rosette in the ribbon of the Military Order of William has been replaced by a bow.
