The King and Queen to visit Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima will visit the German federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland between Wednesday 10 October and Friday 12 October 2018. Joining them on this visit will be Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Sigrid Kaag, who will lead a trade mission. The mission will devote attention to two areas in particular: digitisation (with a focus on cybersecurity and digital industry) and life sciences and health (with a focus on e-health and mobility and vitality).

Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland are both in the process of transitioning from old-style industry to a digital economy. Given the region’s history and its location at the border with France and Luxembourg, the issue of European cooperation is a major topic of discussion in these states. Attention will be given to both these issues during this visit.

Every year the royal couple visit one or more German federal states, with a particular focus on economic relations.
