Tuesday 23 to Thursday 25 September: New York
On Tuesday 23 September, Queen Máxima will attend the opening of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York. Her schedule in New York also includes bilateral meetings with representatives of governments and development organisations to discuss how to help people improve their financial health. To do this, people need products, services and policies that give them control over their daily income, protect them from financial risks, help them achieve their short- and long-term goals and instil confidence about their future financial position.
On the morning of Wednesday 24 September Queen Máxima will co-host a round-table discussion with the software and IT company Globant, with topics including how fintech can contribute to financial health. For example, a tech product could enable consumers to round up shopping transactions and automatically save the difference.
On Thursday 25 September, Queen Máxima will present her first annual report as UNSGSA for Financial Health to UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Together with the BlackRock Foundation, she will co-host a round-table talk with business leaders, financial organisations and policymakers, discussing the role of employers in their employees’ financial health. One of BlackRock's objectives is to encourage more employers to give employees access to savings programmes that will enable them to build up a financial buffer. The Queen will also speak with ministers and ambassadors from several UN member states about creating an informal ‘Group of Friends for Financial Health’. The purpose of the group will be to share best practices and help coordinate global cooperation on the theme of financial health.
